Sanjay Dutt again files for leave

He was found guilty of possessing AK56 and explosives used in the 1993 Mumbai blasts

Mumbai: Actor Sanjay Dutt, convicted in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, has for the fourth time sought a fortnight’s leave from Pune’s Yerawada prison where he is currently lodged.

The actor was found guilty of possessing AK56 rifles and explosives used in blasts.

Prison officials said they were in the process of examining his application for leave and were yet to take a decision on the same.

According to DIG (prisons) Rajendra Dhamane, they received Dutt’s application for “furlough” — a rightful periodical leave for convicts — around two months ago.

“We are examining Dutt’s documents and will also ask for a say from the local police station under whose jurisdiction he resides in Mumbai,” said Mr Dhamane.
