Watch: When the Bombay Duck quacked, ate up Australian batsmen

Former India bowler Ajit Agarkar surprised hosts with pace, swing in 2003

Mumbai: Whenever India played in Australia, most of the time, they have been demolished. But at one point of time, it looked like India’s mental strength was at par with the hosts. One such series was the one in 2003-2004 when India thrashed the mighty Aussies at Adelaide and drew the series 1-1 in the end.

Apart from Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman – the usual heroes with the bat, another player whose effort helped India win the match was Ajit Agarkar. Ironically, Agarkar earned the name Bombay Duck after registering seven consecutive ducks in the 1999-200 series. But in 2003, the duck learnt to fly.

With Adelaide all set to host the opener on December 9 this season, let us recall Agarkar’s efforts (6/41). He single-handedly cleaned up the Aussie batters.

Justin Langer was trapped leg-before, the dangerous Ricky Ponting caught at gully and the rest followed suit.

Do you remember the spell?
