Riot-hit Pragathi Mahavidyalaya college declares 2-day holiday

The rally was scheduled to start at 10 am, from the college on Monday

Hyderabad: Students and friends of Harshavardhan, who was killed by his senior, demanded stringent action against eve-teasing and ragging in city colleges.

They sought support of the student community to stop such incidents which took the life of their friend.

The students were also angry with the police and college management for stopping them from conducting a peace rally in memory of Harshavardhan. The rally was scheduled to start at 10 am, from the college on Monday.

Sultan Bazaar police, along with extra personnel, reached the spot and stopped the students from conducting the peace rally.

After an hour of heated arguments and demands from the students, the college management finally agreed to conduct a condolence meet along with some students on the college premises.

Teja, a student and childhood friend of Harshavardhan, said the management also has to take the responsibility for Harshavardhan’s death.

“It is an unfortunate incident. We want the guilty to be punished,” said college principal T.V. Rao.

He also declared a two-day holiday in memory of the deceased student.
