Curbs on registration of land draw flak from all

The registrations have to be halted which will result in panic among the buyers and sellers

Vijayawada: The realty sector in Andhra Pradesh, in all probability, will face serious repercussions if the GO No. 398 issued by the state government two days ago, is implemented strictly.

This order made NOCs by mandal tahsildar mandatory for registration of plots or vacant sites of nonagricultural lands.

It also says the registering officer must check that the particulars of the property along with the name of the executioner in the document, tally with the entries in the sub- division statement issued by the revenue authorities, before approving any registration.

Though issued with good intentions, it could not be implemented immediately as the revenue department is not updated. Many think that it will take at least three to four months for the revenue department to ready itself for the fresh task.

Naturally, till then the registrations have to be halted which will result in panic among the buyers and sellers.

This was already evident as almost all the sub-registrar offices in the state wore a deserted look on Saturday, the very next day after the GO was issued.

The realtors who had sold plots in the proposed layouts with the hope that they will be sanctioned soon, are in a soup. At the same time, the buyers are also demanding for refund of money.

Some sub-registrars met at Guntur on Sunday to discuss the issue. Many expressed their displeasure over this GO and urged their higher authorities to initiate corrective steps.

The state president of the documentary association Tummamlapalli Hari Krishna said first the government should make arrangements and appoint adequate number of trained surveyors and other staff to issue the sub division statements.

Otherwise, people will have to keep on going to the revenue offices wasting both time and money.

Admitting that the order has created a havoc, and official of the registrations and stamp department said, they will suggest the government to take corrective steps soon.
