Centre promises help for capital

The state government has asked for Rs 1 lakh crore for the construction of the new capital city

Hyderabad: An integrated decision on all issues pertaining to funds, including for the new capital city will be taken in 15 days by the Union finance ministry, Andhra Pradesh has been assured.

Union finance minister for state Jayanth Sinha, Union science and technology minister Y.S. Chowdary, AP government’s chief secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao and state finance department officials P.V. Ramesh, Ajay Kallam and others held a meeting on Saturday at Lakeview Guest House.

They discussed how the Centre will help Andhra Pradesh to make up for the loss due to state bifurcation.

After the meeting, Mr Jayanth Sinha said the state government has asked for Rs 1 lakh crore for the construction of the new capital city. He said that the state government has a deficit Budget and added that they had studied the gaps the Centre can fill in.

Mr Chowdary said that they have discussed the assurances given by the Centre in the state bifurcation act.

Meanwhile, the Centre has arranged a meeting with state government officials on December 2 to discuss a special package to seven districts in AP. The Centre has assured to give a special package to four districts of Rayalaseema and three districts of North Andhra. The state government had sent the proposals to the Centre on a special package asking for Rs 25,400 crore.
