Ex sailor turns saviour to distraught family

Manikandan’s decision after seeing their plight

Kochi: Bini Babu, a resident of Sreemoolanagaram on the outskirts of the district, has suffered enough tragedies in her life so far.

The death of one of her brothers, a mishap that another went through and her spouse suffering from a neuro-related illness, all have meant none from her family could be a donor and help the mother of two who suffers from permanent kidney failure.

The transplant, which is scheduled for Monday, means a lot to Bini who wants to educate her two sons. One of her brothers died after suffering a cardiac arrest and another suffered serious injuries in a mishap at his factory in Eloor. Her husband Babu had suffered a blood clot and was operated upon.

Bini (42) has been suffering for the past five years and has been undergoing dialysis since December last. She was admitted to the Lissie Hsopital two weeks ago.

This is when Manikandan T P, an ex-Sailor and currently an employee of the Kalady University, came forward to help the family after learning about their plight. The kidney transplant surgery is now scheduled for Monday.

“I got the nod from my wife,Baby, my son and daughter Gokul and Gopika as we were moved by her plight.

I expressed my willingness to donate a kidney to the woman and she was very happy to hear my words. Subsequently our cross matching and documentation formalities have been completed.

I now request friends and family to pray to the almighty to help the poor woman to get better so she can lead a normal life,” Manikandan told DC.
