No other PM has visited J&K as many times as I have, says Narendra Modi in Udhampur

PM Modi thanked the people of J&K for high turnout in first phase of Assembly polls

Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir: Addressing an election rally in Udhampur ahead of the second phase of Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, thanked the people of Jammu and Kashmir for such a high turnout in the first phase of the Assembly polls held on November 25.

"No other Prime Minister has visited Jammu and Kashmir as many times as I have," said Modi, adding, "Everytime I have come here, I have brought development plans."

Lashing out at corrupt politicians, Modi said, “Corruption, looting and emotional blackmailing has become a habit of politicians here.”

Modi promised he would do all he could to help Jammu and Kashmir. “I will accomplish in 5 years what hasn't been done in the past 30 years.”

“We will make sure where this money allocated for Jammu and Kashmir is going. The ruling party here criticises me and so does the opposition because I have stopped their loot. There has been so much money sent to J&K by the Centre that this should have been the richest state but it was deposited with a few families.”

Modi is scheduled to address another election rally in Poonch later today.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made ahead of the Prime Minister's visit in the wake of an encounter wherein three civilians were killed on Thursday.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is contesting all the 87 assembly seats in the state without forging alliances with any political party.

Udhampur and Poonch assembly divisions will go to polls along with Gulabgarh, Reasi, Gool Arnas, Chenani, Ramnagar, Surankote, Mendhar in Jammu region and Karnah, Kupwara, Lolab, Handwara, Langate, Noorabad, Kulgam, Home-Shalibugh and Devsar in Kashmir Valley on December 2.

Earlier on November 22, Prime Minister Modi had campaigned for BJP candidates in the first phase of polls by addressing a rally in Chenab valley's Kishtwar belt. Over 40,000 people came to hear him.

An unprecedented 70 per cent voter turnout was witnessed in the first phase of elections.
