New Delhi: Despite repeated assurances from the government that it was ready for a discussion under any rule decided by the Speaker, the united Opposition, led by the Congress and the Trinamool created a ruckus in both the Houses of Parliament by targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi over black money.
The Opposition members, who stormed into the well of the Houses, repeatedly raised slogans and asked what had been done so far to implement the BJP’s poll promise to bring back black money in 100 days.
The Lok Sabha was briefly adjourned.
Meanwhile, government sources revealed that the issue of black money would be taken up for discussion in Parliament on Wednesday, by either House or both the Houses.
The Opposition parties, however, continued to raise questions over what the government has done on it.
While there is talk in Opposition circles of bringing an adjournment motion on the issue, B. Mahtab of the BJD has given a notice in the Lok Sabha for discussion on the issue under Rule 193, which does not entail voting.
“The government is ready for a discussion on the issue in both Houses of Parliament,” minister of state for parliamentary affairs Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.
Tuesday was the first working day of the Winter Session as both Houses were adjourned on Monday after condoling the death of some sitting members.
In Lok Sabha, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan went ahead with Zero Hour, unmindful of the slogans by Opposition, who chanted, “bring back black money” and displayed black umbrellas.
