BJP netas against stash return: Ram Jethmalani

Some leaders have problems in return of black money, he says

MUMBAI: Noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani on Sunday once again alleged that some leaders of the BJP were opposed to bringing back black money worth lakhs of crores stashed in overseas banks.

He also met social crusader Anna Hazare on the issue at his Ralegan Siddhi residence in Ahmednagar on Sunday.

After deliberations, Mr Jethmalani said, “I have come to meet Mr Hazare on the issue of black money as I need his advice on the matter.”

When asked whether the BJP had problems in bringing back the black money, Mr Jethmalani replied, “BJP doesn’t have any problem, but some of its leaders do.”

Mr Jethmalani, who claimed that around Rs 70 lakh crore was stashed away in foreign banks, had written a letter to the Prime Minister last week on the issue.

He has also filed a plea in the Supreme Court, acting on which the apex court had constituted a Special Investigating Team (SIT) on black money.

On November 24 too, he wrote a scathing letter to finance minister Arun Jaitley, accusing him of taking an “ill-advised” stand on the issue in the Supreme Court.

“I strongly suspect that your conduct shows that you too, like many others, do not want the truth to come out,” Mr Jethmalani wrote in his letter.

Earlier this month, the veteran lawyer and the former BJP MP, had put the Modi government in a fix when he backed Pervez Mumsharaf’s doctrine on solving Kashmir issue.

Mr Jethmalani had alleged that Mr Musharraf’s efforts to seek an amicable solution to the vexed issue of Kashmir were “frustrated” by India.
