19 held for assaulting Loyola school PT instructor

Arrested people were employees of Rich India Pvt. Ltd
Chennai: For the second day, parents and staff of Loyola matriculation school in Kodambakkam held a road roko near the Kodambakam flyover on Friday, demanding the arrest of the assailants of the PT teacher. The local police pacified the people who disrupted traffic flow and dispersed the crowd. Later, around noon, city police commissioner S. George visited the school and assured the parents and the management that the people who took the law into their own hands will be arrested.
Nineteen persons, employees of Rich India Pvt. Ltd., were arrested by the police based on evidence from the CCTV footage. “The company’s owner, Arulanandham, whose son was allegedly given corporal punishment, is absconding and we will be arresting him soon,” a senior police officer said. Following the incident, a posse of police personnel, numbering more than 300 was stationed near the school and in front of Rich India IAS academy in Kodambakkam.
The issue began on Thursday afternoon wherein employees of the businessman stormed into the school and assaulted physical education instructor S. Baskar Raj after he allegedly disciplined Arulanandham’s son there for imitating him.Baskar is undergoing treatment at the Rajiv Gandhi government general hospital and is in a stable condition. Initially, three persons are seen entering the school and manhandling the PT instructor. He was taken out where around 30 men were waiting where he was assaulted, according to visuals in the CCTV footage.
“More than 50 people entered the school premises Thursday noon. We don’t have protection for our children also here. They were locked inside the room for safety during the violence. Does the businessman preach rowdyism at his IAS training centre?” B. Lydia, a parent there, said. “If another child fights with Arulanandham’s son, we fear they would send henchmen to sort things out,” A. Ruby, another parent, said.
Correspondent F. Edward Selvaraj, after discussions with the commissioner, announced in the PA system that all measures to ensure the safety of the children would be taken and that Baskar was in a stable condition in the hospital. The police have forwarded the complaint of the alleged corporal punishment to the school education department. A senior police official there said the case took a turn because the men took the law into their own hands instead of preferring a complaint with the police.
