Playing the ‘Wrogn’ line

Virat Kohli launched his fashion line, ‘Wrogn’
Hyderabad: Virat Kohli is a youth icon as much for his suave style as he is for his cricket. And on Thursday evening, the team India vice-captain further cemented his image as a style icon with the launch of a new fashion line. The collection, which he launched with celebrity commerce company Universal Sportsbiz Pvt Ltd (USPL), was unveiled at a fashion show in Mumbai.
“I’m really glad that I was able to do something that I’ve always wanted to do,” Virat said, after he walked the ramp with a few models.
The line is called “Wrogn” and Virat explained the quirky name, “When we thought of launching this line, we were thinking of names. And one thing that people have associated with me, at the first look or in the first instance, is being ‘wrong’!
They picture me as someone who is wrong, and that eventually becomes right after a certain point of time. So that was the whole plan, and we decided to spell ‘wrong’ the wrong way!”
At the unveiling, Virat was also asked who he looked up to as a style icon. “I used to be inspired by Justin Timberlake. Because the way he dressed was very unconventional he would come on stage wearing white sneakers with a dapper suit and I thought that was cool. That sort of inspired me for my fashion line as well.”
While USPL has previously partnered with sporting icons such as Sachin Tendulkar, Lionel Messi, Yuvraj Singh and Sania Mirza for collections of exclusive merchandise and memorabilia, Wrogn marks their maiden venture in the field of signature menswear.
In fact, it was while working on a merchandise line two years ago that USPL’s MD Anjana Reddy first worked with Virat. When she thought of launching a fashion line for Indian men, she couldn’t think of a better youth icon than Virat. “We thought this was the right time to take our association forward.
Virat, today, is among the biggest fashions icons for the youth,” Anjana said. Describing how they partnered on Wrogn, Anjana added, “Virat has designed the line and it is largely inspired by what he likes. I have looked into the production, manufacturing, designing and retailing the product.” From February 2015, the line will be made available at Shoppers Stop outlets as on e-retailing site Myntra.
On Anushka Sharma:
Apart from his fashion line, the focus was also on Virat’s love interest, actress Anushka Sharma. Virat spoke at length about their equation. “It’s out in the open. We are not hiding anything, but if you are repeatedly asked the same thing, and it is made a matter of debate then both the individuals don’t feel it is right.”
“If you are seen together somewhere and still people ask ‘is it confirmed?’ then it is a matter of common sense. If you know, then why ask the same question? We will not like to speak about it because it is something very personal for us and that should be respected by the media and everyone else as well,” Virat said.
