Hyderabad high court questions Karimnagar Municipal Corporation staff

A park neglected

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday expressed displeasure with Karimnagar Muni-cipal Corporation for failing to restore the Nehru Park in Karimnagar.

Earlier, the court had ordered that the 6,655-square yard park at Vavilalapally be restorted, while dealing with a petition by local residents P. Ramana Reddy and Uday Kumar.

The petitioners told the court that KMC officials had failed to prevent encroachment of the park by private individuals.

The civic authorities submitted that there was no scope for encroachment, as a boundary wall has been erected around the park. However, a portion of the park has been segregated for community purposes.

The court directed the civic authorities on December 30, 2013, to not use or allot any portion of the park for any other purpose, and gave the KMC a month to complete to provide facilities to children.

However, the authorities failed to implement the orders, and the petitioners moved a contempt case against the former and present commissioners of the corporation.

Gandra Mohan Rao, counsel for the petitioners, submitted that the authorities had only removed the compound wall between the park and community hall and nothing had been done even after 10 months.

On Thursday, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao expressed anger at the authorities and directed the former and the present commissioners to pay Rs 4,000 each from their pockets as costs and directed the government to not reimburse the amount to them.
