Sania Mirza might play IPTL singles

27-year-old Hyderabadi said that she was looking forward to the tournament
Mumbai: After a thoroughly rewarding year where she won her maiden World Tour Finals to add to her US Open mixed doubles crown and Asian Games gold and bronze, besides two other titles on the tour, tennis sensation Sania Mirza is now looking to indulge in some fun and games.A career that has been marked by frequent injuries resulting in three surgeries, Sania who only plays doubles is hoping to delight her fans by playing singles in the upcoming International Premier Tennis League.
The IPTL features four franchise teams featuring champions like Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Pete Sampras among others. Sania and Federer are part of Indian Aces, the Delhi franchise.“I think it is going to be lot of fun. I might actually play the singles. It is a small secret. We will see. If I have to play one set, I will play,” Sania said in a chat with this newspaper.
Signed by Sony Pix for their upcoming show, the Hyderabadi added that she was looking forward to the tournament. “To play with such legends, to play with people whom we could not play with is going to be fantastic. To see Federer and Sampras in the same team is something that has probably not happened and not going to happen, so it is going to be pretty amazing,” she added.
The 27-year-old added that replicating her tremendous form in the 2015 season was going to be a challenge. “To win the World Tour Finals was pretty amazing. I chose to put 900 points at stake by playing in the Asian Games and I would have easily finished outside the top 10. When you do things from your heart they work out. A women’s doubles title would have meant a perfect year. I am looking forward to the next season with my new partner Hsieh Su-Wei, who was No.1 earlier this year,” she said.
Sania, who played close to 25 tournaments, said she had no plans to cut down in the upcoming season. “The plan is to go all out and play full on and try continue my good form. As tennis players we are always greedy and we always want more,” she concluded.
