Karnataka winter session to be less expensive this time

Govt has done away with sumptuous lunches, free coffee and snacks
Bengaluru: Taking to heart the public criticism it had invited for its lavish spending on the last winter session of the state legislature in Belgaum, the state government has this time done away with not just sumptuous lunches for legislators and officers, but also free coffee/tea and snacks.
Only a working lunch will be served to the legislators, officers, the media and the police during the 10-day session starting December 9. Considering that the lavish Uttara Karnataka dishes served last year had sent many legislators and officers home with an upset stomach, this time the food served will be light and easy on the stomach, reveals a secretariat officer.
“Legislators will be served a simple fare of rice sambar, chapathi and curd. Last time, it was charged Rs. 1200 a plate for 8000 people a day by private caterers and had to spend Rs. 9.60 lakh a day on lunch alone,” said an officer. But that’s not all. No dinner will be served either to the legislators and officers, who will have to buy their own this year. And unlike last year, they will to have to make their own way to the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha for the session.
