State BJP unit to adopt villages under "Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana” scheme

Bengaluru: Leaders of the state unit of BJP have asked all 17 members of Lok Sabha to hand over to respective deputy commissioners a list of villages where they propose to develop the infrastructure and turn them into model dwelling places under “Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana” scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the birth anniversary of Jayaprakash Narayan.
Barring some, a majority of MPs has identified villages for implementing this scheme, and the progress so far would be reviewed during the forthcoming winter session of Parliament, according to state unit president Pralhad Joshi.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle Mr. Joshi said: “I have chosen Haru Belwadi, a village situated in the border of my Lok Sabha constituency. After identifying that village, I organized a programme which was attended by the deputy commissioner and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Cutting across party lines, people agreed to co-operate to develop this village under the scheme.”
Meanwhile, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP and former minister, Shobha Karandlaje, said she has identified “Gandhi Ghar,” a village in Mudigere taluk, which Mahatma Gandhi visited during the freedom struggle. She said she plans to add three more villages to this list, but has not initiated any developmental work so far. “MPs can also take up developmental works under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund, but in my constituency no major companies exist, so I have to take up developmental projects under the MPLAD fund”, she added.
She said before identifying villages, MPs have to adhere to guidelines set by the ministry of rural development and panchayat raj. Among them are conditions that villages must without be bars and restaurants, and that the literacy level must be above average. Besides, the total population should be 3000 to 5000. Every MP should strive to generate employment opportunities, and improve the standard of living in each village too.
Mr. Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP of Mangaluru Lok Sabha constituency, who has picked Balpa village in Sullia taluk, said “the government has provided booklets for us. In the first step, we have identified one village. In the next, we have to identify two more villages for implementing the scheme.”
Former chief ministers B. S. Yeddyurappa and D. V. Sadananda Gowda have decided to implement the scheme in Keradi village in Byndoor taluk, and Veerasandra and Bellare villages on the outskirts of Bengaluru, respectively.
