Hyderabad Metro: Realignment to save old sites

Realignment in the Old City to save 40 religious structures
Hyderabad: Chief Minister KCR told L&T chief that the Metro rail needed to be realigned due to the “emotional attachment” that the people had towards the various heritage structures. He also asked changing the route towards the rear of Koti Women’s college to avoid Sultan Bazaar. He also sought realignment in the Old City to save 40 religious structures for which a separate meeting would be arranged with the MIM and other leaders of the Old City on Nov. 20 to suggest realignment.
Mr Rao lashed out at L&T for ‘selective leakage’ of the confidential letters and correspondence between the government and L&T to selective newspapers with a “Seemandhra agenda”, which are bent on obstructing the development of Hyderabad and Telangana. He informed Mr Naik that he had thought of retiring from active politics soon after achieving Telangana but was forced to accept the responsibility of the CM’s post to scuttle the efforts of Seemandhra leaders, who are conspiring against Telangana.
CMO sources said that Mr Rao turned ‘very emotional’ when he took up the issue of the ‘leaked letters’ by L&T to selective media, stating that they never thought Telangana would be a reality and even if Telangana was formed they thought Hyderabad would be made a Union territory. the permanent capital of both the states or would be made a union territory.
He told Mr Naik that he was pained to read those "political contents" besides taking strong exception to the observation that Hyderabad without Seemandhra would not be commercially viable to run the Metro.
Mr Rao said, "Had we agreed for Telangana without Hyderabad, we would have achieved it long ago. Just because we did not compromise on Hyderabad, it took 14 years to achieve the state. Without knowing the historical significance and need of Telangana, your company made highly objectionable observations on Telangana and Hyderabad."
Mr Naik expressed regret over this and offered unconditional apologies and told Mr Rao that the company has no problem working with the TS government now and also in the future and is keen to take up upcoming projects, if offered by the government.
Mr Rao added, "We have been extending all the support to Metro. The works are progressing at a faster pace among all the other metros in the country. Despite this, your company leaked letters with political remarks which some section of the Seemandhra media utilised to disrupt the Metro project and spoil the brand image of Hyderabad. Some Seemandhra leaders and their media are working hard to prove that new TS is a 'failure' by blocking water, power, jobs and mega projects and your leaked letters were used as weapons to destroy TS. They created an impression that the Metro project is being scrapped. In fact, I want the Metro to be extended from 72 kms to 200 kms in the future."
Mr Rao offered speedy clearances for the Metro project with regard to land allotments, traffic approvals among others, besides initiating measures to overcome legal hurdles with regard to property acquisition and compensation.
