6.5 kg tumour removed from woman’s uterus

Despite treatment at various hospitals in Kerala there was not much relief
Coimbatore: A huge tumour, weighing 6.75 kg, was removed from the uterus after a three-hour surgery by a city hospital, free of cost.
Laparoscopic and diabetic surgeon, Dr S. Kumaraswamy of Sathya Medical Centre and Hospital, told Deccan Chronicle that Firoza, a 43-year-old woman from Palakkad, in Kerala, was suffering from abdomen and lower back pain for the last two years.
Despite treatment at various hospitals in Kerala there was not much relief.
She was then diagnosed with tumour at a government hospital in Kerala and referred to the hospital.
Investigations revealed that the huge tumour that was seated on the uterus was also applying pressure on the intestine due to its weight.
The woman also had extremely high sugar level and, hence, had huge potential for complications. However, the tumour was removed after a three-hour laparoscopic procedure, free of cost.
As the tumour has been removed, the sugar level has also come under control. As the surgery was a success, the patient has been shifted directly to the ward.
