Mumbai car thief nabbed

The thief was nabbed while trying to break open a shutter of a super market
Chennai: A thief from Mumbai and his three associates had traveled all the way to Chennai in a stolen car from Nagpur, in Maharashtra, to strike at shops in the city. But he ran out of luck when a beat constable caught him while trying to break open a shutter of a super market on Jawaharlal Salai in Arumbakkam on Thursday night.“Special SI Rasool Raj and youth brigade member Gunasekharan managed to overpower Fakruddin Sayed.
Another man who was with him managed to escape. Police later found that two others who were waiting in the car also ran away on seeing the police,” the police said on Friday. Initially, the police team was not aware that the gang had travelled by car from Maharashtra. But during a body search of the suspect, they found a remote car key and Fakruddin was not ready to give details about the car.
“A police team travelled with the remote access key through Jawaharalal Salai and zeroed in on the car. It was found to be registered in Nagpur. When questioned further, Fakruddin confessed that he had stolen the car from Nagpur and had travelled with three of his associates to Chennai to commit theft in shops in the city,” a senior police officer said.
The city police checked the background of the suspect with the Maharashtra police and found Fakruddin is “known” for breaking open shutters of shops and stealing valuables.
The city police are now on the look-out for other three men.
