HC observed that degrees obtained through correspondence course and regular mode should be treated equally

Chennai: The Madras high court has observed that degrees obtained through correspondence course and regular mode should be treated equally.

On writ petition filed by C. Dharuman and five others, Justice D. Hariparanthaman passed the order. The petitioners submitted that as they did not complete higher secondary school examination they appeared in the entrance examination conducted by Madras/Annamalai Universities and joinedB.Lit (Tamil) course through correspondence mode. They obtained the degrees and possessed required qualification as per statutory special rules for the Tamil Nadu Educational Subordinate Service. However, according to G.O. of August 2009 if a candidate/person obtained a degree without passing plus-2, he could not seek appointment/promotion in government service. Justice Hariparanthaman directed authorities to promote the petitioners within eight weeks.
