Parted from family, girl hangs herself

Girl was not happy staying away from family
Vijayawada: Students of Sri Chaitanya College staying in the Santabhavan hostel near Vijayawada on Saturday woke up to the shocking news of their friend M. Sri Vidya, 16, hanging from the ceiling fan in her room. Sri Vidya, a native of Badvel in Kadapa district, was studying Intermediate first year in MPC stream and had recently returned to the college after holidays.
On seeing the shocking sight, the students alerted the college management which in turn informed the Patamata police.
Police found a suicide note addressed to M. Penchulaiah, her father, on her bed which said, “You will have Priya and Harsha after I am gone. I have not been with you since the beginning.”
The note went on: “Mom, dad, sorry for being unable to do anything for you.”
Priya and Harsha, the victim’s sisters, live with their parents while Sri Vidya lived with her foster father. Patamata inspector K. Damodara Rao said that the girl was adopted by her maternal uncle in childhood.
“The girl was apparently not happy at staying away from her own parents. She spent 10 days with her parents and was dropped by them in the college. Since then she was depressed. Besides, family disputes may be among the reasons behind the suicide,” Mr Damodar said. Her father agreed that Sri Vidya appeared depressed since the past few weeks.
The girl was described as a bright student who scored well in Class X exams. The body was sent for autopsy. A case under CrPc Section 174 was registered based on Penchulaiah’s complaint. Investigation is on.
