Andhra Pradesh needs to acquire 21,000 acres

For SCs and STs also a separate package is being planned

Hyderabad: Around 9,000 acres of the 30,000 acres in Tullur and Mangalagiri mandals planned to be pooled for the capital is either government-owned or assigned land. This reduces the task of the government to procuring only 21,000 acres. Nearly 20 per cent, i.e. 6,000 acres is government land and 10 per cent i.e. 3,000 acres is assigned land.

Though hundreds of families farming assigned lands have title deeds, officials said it would not be a problem to take back these assigned lands. The challenge is to pool 21,000 acres of private lands, they said.

Agriculture minister P. Pulla Rao said there will be no partiality and that lands belonging to farmers, ministers, elected representatives, industrialists and everyone in the 17 villages will be taken over for building the capital city.

While the government is offering 1,000 square yards of developed plot per acre to farmers and landlords who own private lands, it will be 750 sq yards for those holding title deeds on assigned lands.

"For SCs and STs also a separate package is being planned. Tenant farmers and agricultural labourers will be given skill development training and provided employment. The government is also planning to give stipend to them until they are trained and provided with employment," a senior official said.
