PM Narendra Modi flags off 'Run for Unity' to mark birth anniversary of Sardar Patel

'The country that forgets its history can't ever make history,' says PM Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tribute at the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel near Parliament Street here on Friday morning.

The Prime Minister also took to Twitter to hail Sardar Patel's service to the nation.

"Sardar Patel's life is a journey of deep-rooted courage, dedication and service to the Motherland. He is truly the architect of Modern India. I bow to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary," Prime Minister Modi tweeted.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Lt. Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung were also present at the function when the Prime Minister paid his tribute.

The 139th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel today is being commemorated as 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas' or National Unity Day across the nation.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh will attend a 'Run For Unity' in Hyderabad and will also attend a passing out parade for officers of the IPS (Indian Police Service) at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy.
