Karachi airport attack: Four suspects arrested

The four were arrested after months of extensive investigation into the attack

Karachi: Pakistan police have arrested fourmilitants belonging to Pakistani Taliban and al-Qaeda for masterminding the deadly attack on Karachi airport in June that killed 37 people.

The four were arrested after months of extensive investigation into the attack, Additional IG CID Saqib Ismail Memon told reporters here on Tuesday.

"They are the masterminds of the chain which planned and executed the attack at the old Karachi airport on June 8 this year," he said.

Around 37 people, including ten terrorists, were killed during the attack. The TTP had claimed responsibility for the attack soon after which the military launched offensive 'Zarb-e-Azab' in North Waziristan against foreign and local terrorists.

The CID chief said that the four had got training in camps in border areas with Afghanistan in the Baluchistan province and they had planned the attack for four months before it was carried out.

"These terrorists are coming to Karachi using fake NIC and driving licenses issued in Baluchistan province to carry out terrorist attacks," he added.

Memon said links had been found between the attacks on the Karachi airport and the one at the Samungli airport in Quetta.
