Power crisis: Lights-out for billboards past 10 pm

Streetlights in city will also be re-installed with LED lights
Hyderabad: Power to all major billboards and hoardings in the twin cities will be shut off after 10 pm. That apart, 10 lakh property tax payers will be receiving a message from the GHMC to reduce power usage. Streetlights in city will also be re-installed with LED lights.
Zonal deputy commissioners and senior officials of all the wings of GHMC plan to reduce the power consumption in all their offices. GHMC has directed all hoteliers in the city to co-operate and reduce power consumption as well.
Somesh Kumar, the GHMC commissioner, in-structed the advertising agencies to cut off power after 10 pm to billboards and major hoardings.
Mr Kumar said, “The Corporation has about 10 lakh phone numbers of tax and trade licence payers. GHMC will send messages to all of them to co-operate in saving power. Hoteliers across the state have assured their co-operation to reduce the power consumption in the coming 15 days.”
Power holidays cut in City
Following the Chief Minister’s instructions to TSTransco and Genco CMD Prabhakar Rao on lifting power holiday, a rollback of one day power holiday has been announced. An official release from Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Ltd said that the power holiday has been rescheduled with effect from Oct. 28.

Monday: Ranga Reddy North; Hyderabad North; Hyderabad
Tuesday: Bollarum Industrial Area in Medak circle
Wednesday: Mahbubnagar circle
Thursday: Medak circle excluding Bollarum Industrial Area
Friday: Nalgonda circle (excluding Bhongir)
Saturday: Ranga Reddy South
Meanwhile, TSSPDCL’s sleuths from its Vigilance Department caught a resident of MS Maqtha in Somajiguda for indulging in three different cases of power theft for the second time.
The 60-year-old offen-der, Syed Saleem, has been arrested and sent to jail on judicial remand for a second-time offence.
The vigilance team has been keeping track of each offence and according to law, does not allow second-time offenders to escape with just a fine. “Those involved in a second offence will face action in keeping with the law as the second offence is not compoundable,” said chief vigilance officer, K. Muralidhar Rao.
The consumer was involved in three cases of power theft and was booked under the Electricity Act of 2003 for which he paid a compounding fee. The offender again was involved for pilferage of power by tampering with meters of separate service connections for which he was booked with second offence by Vigilance and Anti-Power Theft Squad II official A. E. Srinvas.
He was arrested on Monday and produced before the XIV Addit-ional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Nampally.
