Heavy rains disrupt traffic in Andhra Pradesh

Tanks were breached in several mandals of the district and Somasila received heavy inflows

Vijayawada/ Guntur/ Nellore/ Rajahmundry/ Anantapur: Following heavy rainfall, tanks were breached at some places in Andhra Pradesh on Monday. Vehicular traffic was also disrupted at several places.

Nellore city received 11 cm of rainfall on Monday morning and the low-lying areas of the city were inundated. Tanks were breached in several mandals of the district and Somasila received heavy inflows.

In Prakasam district, traffic between Ongole and Chirala came to a standstill following the overflowing of Gundlakamma stream at Maddirapadu village. AS much as 25,000 cusecs of water was released.

Vehicular traffic was affected between Ongole and Inkollu as well, due to overflowing of the Poniki stream.

In Guntur district, Ponnur received 14 cm of rainfall inundating the BC Colony and RTC bus stand. Several low lying areas were water-logged. The Kondaveeti stream, Nallamada and Yedduvagu are overflowing. Guntur received 5 mm rainfall this morning.

In Anantapur, traffic was disrupted between Madakasira and Penugonda as the Murirayanahalli stream was overflowing and a culvert was damaged. Chettur mandal received the highest rainfall at 20 cm.

In Krishna district, Vijayawada received heavy rainfall creating inconvenience to the devotees proceeding to various temples to observe the first Monday of Kartikam.
