Nitin Gadkari meets RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat

Mr Gadkari clarified that he met Mr Bhagwat only to extend Diwali greetings
MUMBAI: After showing off his strength, Union transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday met RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.
The meeting gained significance in view of Mr Gadkari’s supporters’ demand that he be made the Chief Minister of Maharashtra instead of Devendra Fadnavis, the front-runner for the post.
Mr Fadnavis also met Mr Bhagwat, who had then arrived in the city from Uttar Pradesh, on Friday evening. However, after meeting with the RSS chief, Mr Gadkari clarified that he met Mr Bhagwat only to extend Diwali greetings, a tradition he has been following for the last 25 years.
The Union minister also stated that he was not in the race for the chief ministerial post and would stand by the candidate chosen by the party.
A few days ago, some MLAs openly demanded that Mr Gadkari be made the CM. The MLAs even gathered at Mr Gadkari’s residence to convince him to take up the top post.
Eventually, Mr Fadnavis, who is considered to be the choice of BJP leadership for the chief minister’s post, met Mr Gadkari twice on Friday.
