AI flight to Kochi faces bomb threat

An anonymous call received by the director of Airports Authority of India

Kochi: The Kochi international airport was put on high alert on Friday following a specific threat of suicide bomb attacks on an Air India flight bound for Kochi.

An anonymous call received by the director of Airports Authority of India, Kolkata region, on Thursday threatened of suicide bomb attacks on the Friday night flight from Ahmedabad to Mumbai and early Saturday morning flight from Mumbai to Kochi.

Airport director A.C.K. Nair said the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security in a letter had asked the airport authorities to tighten security and activate emergency mechanisms.

An emergency meet of security agencies presided over by Mr Nair was held on Friday in which top officers, including CISF DIG (Chennai region) Anand Mohan, attended. “We’ve deployed bomb detection and disposal squad and quick response team on the airport,” he said.
