Parents continue protest, school may reopen Monday

Undeterred, the parent remained firmly on vigil outside

Bengaluru: Orchids, The International School, Jalahalli , which has been closed since Wednesday following the sexual assault on a four- year- old child on campus, is expected to reopen on Monday.

While the management plans to hold a final round of talks with the anxious parents of its students Saturday afternoon, some parents have decided to continue with their protest as little has been done to improve the security at the school.

According to sources in the department of public instructions (DPI), the school has called a meeting of the parents to discuss various issues raised by them at Thursday's meeting.

"On Thursday, the meeting concluded abruptly as a few parents shouted slogans and wanted the management to clarify its stand on issues related to the safety of the students. The management is likely to answer these queries and set their minds at rest on Saturday," said a DPI officer.

While several parents turned up at the school on Friday to keep track of the ongoing investigation, no one except a few faculty were allowed inside the campus with police security having been stepped up in the aftermath of Thursday's vandalism by some local groups.

Undeterred, the parent remained firmly on vigil outside. "All of us are stunned by Tuesday's incident and are following the investigation closely to ensure that the culprit is put behind bars," said one parent.

Meanwhile, acting on the directions of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the DPI has decided to initiate stern action against Orchids for alleged violation of various sections of the Karnataka
Education Act.

"A criminal case has already been filed against the school at the Jalahalli police station and it has been directed to reply to various charges, including violation of medium of instruction rules and conducting classes without renewal of recognition.

As the charges have been prima facie proved, DPI is considering closing down the school or taking over its administration," said a DPI officer.
