Punish those guilty of IPL fixing severely, says petitioner Aditya Verma

‘If necessary, a case of treason also should also be registered against them’

Patna: Aditya Verma, the petitioner in the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing case on Friday said that the people found guilty in the scam should be severely punished.

"If those accused of spot-fixing and betting are found culpable, then I will appeal in the Supreme Court that strict action be taken against them," Verma told ANI.

"If necessary, a case of treason also should also be registered against them," he added.

Verma also said that the lie-detector tests carried out earlier by the Mumbai Police had returned positive, implying their guilt.

"The Mumbai Police that had arrested Gurunath Meiyappan and Vindoo Dara Singh earlier for match fixing in the sixth edition of the IPL had made them undergo the lie detector tests, which had returned positive," Verma told ANI.

"The question is that if the Mudgal report, that is yet to come to the Supreme Court, finds these allegations to be true, it will be very sad for the country, especially people who love cricket," he added.

Earlier on Friday, the Forensic Science Laboratory in Mumbai was able to confirm the voice sample of Meiyappan in a phone conversation with Singh.

The Mudgal Committee submits its report to the Supreme Court at the end of the month and the hearing will begin on November 10.
