Thiruvananthapuram: The UDF Government is planning to make certain changes in the decision to hike stamp duty and registration fee which were enforced through the ordinance on Amendments to the 1959 Kerala Stamp Paper Act and Stamp Duty Ordinance.
Many leaders in the Congress, Kerala Congress and Muslim League had openly expressed their resentment over the stamp duty and registration fee hike especially on partition deeds. They felt that since no sale was involved in partition by mutual consent, the hike in stamp duty and registration fee would put huge financial burden on families.
Sources said the government was not in favour of bringing a fresh ordinance at this stage. Instead it was contemplating an amendment bill in the Assembly session likely to be convened in December, to provide some relief to the people on this account.
