Nitin Gadkari for Maharashtra Chief Minister, is it all a show?

Devendra Fadnavis, who won from Nagpur, is still the front-runner for CM post

Mumbai: Even as demand for Nitin Gadkari to take up the Chief Minister post in Maharashtra grows louder, some reports suggest that it is all a mere show and that Devendra Fadnavis is still the front-runner for the top post.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had earlier said that he would not want to take up the CM post in Maharashtra. Political pundits too suggest that Gadkari would be unwilling to leave his role in the union ministry and come back to state politics.

However, the Sharad Pawar-led NCP’s offer to provide unconditional support from outside to BJP has perhaps got Shiv Sena spooked.

Even if Gadkari’s projection as the Chief Minister is all a show, it seems to be working.

Top Shiv Sena leaders reportedly went to Delhi on Tuesday night to meet BJP leaders on account of government formation in Maharashtra.

This is the first time since 1990 that a single party has won over 100 seats. Although BJP did not get a clear mandate, it won 122 seats out of 288 making it the single largest party in the state.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, observer for BJP, who will be visiting Mumbai to decide on who will be the Chief Minister, said that he may visit the island city after Diwali.
