Top cop admits Telangana police patrols don’t respond fast

Response set-up to be revamped, patrolling increased

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police commissioner C.V. Anand has expressed concern on cases of non response by the newly introduced patrol vehicles, Blue Colts staff and dereliction of duty by the staff.

He directed revamping of the first response system of the new Innova patrol cars and Blue Colts motorbikes till the installation of GPS and other advanced systems.

Hourly job charts have been prepared for the patrols based on job, locations and junctions at which these cars are to be stationed. This position will change in a rotational manner every hour during the day.

The rotational chart will change once in two days. The Innova patrol staff will function in three shifts from 8 am till 8 am with a driver, constable and a home guard during each shift.

The commissioner said the Blue Colt motorbikes will conduct “Galli Gasthi” and they too have been given three types of job cha-rts, each for two days. '

Every hour, they will cover a specific area and patrol for crooks, criminals and serve summons. They will function in two shifts that will enable them to res-pond within 10 to 15 minutes of any complaint.

The commissioner has also revamped night duties and DCP zonal control rooms. The DCP office zonal controls are now being strengthened with one SI in charge and one constable or ho-me guard and others in each of the three shifts.

The night duties currently are at four levels night supervising officer of DCP or additional DCP for the entire commissionerate, night zonal officer of ACP or senior inspector rank for each zone, night divisional round officer of senior inspector or senior SI rank for each division and night round officer of head constable rank at police station level.

Mr Anand said it was noticed that between 2 am and 6 am, most of these supervisory officials become slack due to sleepiness and hence they are unable to perform optimally.

The commissioner had decided that the NDRO level officials would be allowed to go home at 6.30 pm to 7 pm to take rest and return to the police stations at 1.30 am. From 2 am till 6 am, they will be on patrol. The responsibilities of NSOs will remain.

“All those who have night shifts will be permitted to report for duty at 1 pm after rest, breakfast and early lunch at home. All these reforms will ensure that the night duty system will remain active,” the Commissioner said.
