Maharashtra polls: NCP offers outside support to BJP

‘Maharashtra needs a stable government with link to the Centre’

Mumbai: Adding a new twist to the Maharashtra elections rigmarole, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has offered outside support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to form the government in the state.

"Only BJP has got more seats. Maharashtra needs a stable government with link to the Centre," NCP leader Praful Patel said.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra BJP chief Devendra Fadnavis, considered to be a frontrunner for the Chief Minister's post, said all options were open as far as government formation in Maharashtra was concerned.

"We are glad they are respecting the mandate of people, we will take decision in our Parliamentary Board. Our Parliamentary Board will decide who we want to go with and see what is in favour of Maharashtra. All options are open," said Fadnavis.

He added that the BJP had never considered the Shiv Sena as its political opponent.

"We have never considered the Shiv Sena as our opponent," he said.

As the trends showed the BJP emerging as the single largest party in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena leader Anil Desai earlier today indicated that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) makes an offer of reconciliation then his party would consider it. He also added that the Shiv Sena wanted a united and undivided Maharashtra.

"Shiv Sena wants a united and undivided Maharashtra, so we will go ahead keeping that and the people's benefit in mind. If there is a proposal from BJP, we will consider it," said Desai.
