CBI director Ranjit Sinha did not talk to Moin Qureshi, says Attorney General

He however told the SC that Moin had regular conversations with a former CBI chief
New Delhi: Attorney general Mukul Rohatgi on Friday informed the Supreme Court that there were no conversations held between CBI director Ranjit Sinha and Kanpur based meat exporter Moin Akhtar Qureshi.
Mentioning some details of the income tax appraisal report on the controversial meat exporter, the country’s top law officer, however, said Mr Qureshi had regular conversations with a former CBI chief who is currently a member of the Union Public Service Commission.
Although Mr Rohatgi did not name the former CBI director, the reference was seen as being to A.P. Singh as the top law officer said the former agency chief is now a UPSC member. Mr Singh was the predecessor of CBI director Ranjit Sinha, who is also facing flak for allegedly meeting Mr Qureshi, an alleged hawala dealer, at his residence.
Elaborating on some of the details of the IT report, which he claimed was only a “trailer and the real movie is awaited”, Mr Rohatgi said the former director used to have conversations with Mr Qureshi on a daily basis in code through BBM on issues including helping those accused in some cases.
“The conduct of the former CBI director is wholly unbecoming of the director and I am pained to say that,” Mr Rohatgi said and added, “I was pained when I read this.”
Mr Rohatgi said the income tax department had raided Mr Qureshi after his conversations with others were tapped and, on the basis of the raid, the appraisal report which is not a “statutory document” but an analysis was prepared.
He, however, said, “There is no conversation between Moin Qureshi and the present CBI director. There may be some innuendo referring to the present CBI director but there is no direct conversation.”
