TPCC chief Ponnala equated TRS governance of last six months of TD regime in 2004

Karimnagar: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Ponnala Lakshmaiah alleged that Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was trying to mislead public with his time-to-time statements. Addressing a massive dharna staged by the Congress in front of the district collectorate here on Friday, in protest against the frequent power cuts to agriculture sector and in support of farming community, reeling under severe crisis.
Mr. Lakshmaiah alleged that Mr. Rao had made numerous promises only to impress public at the time of general elections, but he failed to implement his assurances even after completion of four months in the office as a Chief Minister of Telangana State. Mr. Rao claimed that he would convert Telangana into a golden state, but he was not addressing problems of farmer.
“By believing words of Mr. Rao, many thought that the creation of Telangana would put an end to many challenges, but rural parts of the state were now witnessing pathetic scenarios due to wide-ranging problems. Mr. K. Chandrasekhar Rao is not taking steps to overcome shortage of power. Consequently, gullible farmers were resorting to extreme steps,” Mr Lakshmaiah lamented.
Over 250 farmers ended lives across the state due to losses in farming caused by erratic power supply and deficit rain fall, while district recorded suicides of 48 farmers. But, MR Rao has not consoled kin of farmers, who committed suicides, following financial crisis for taking up farming. The TPCC president equated governance of the TRS with last six months of Telugu Desam regime till 2004.
He claimed that the Congress had provided electricity to farming community for free of cost soon after assuming power in 2004. The party waived off farmers' electric bills of to the tune to Rs1,250 crore in the past.Opposition leader in Telangana Assembly K. Jana Reddy, deputy leader T. Jeevan Reddy, MLCs Shabbir Ali and D. Srinivas, former MPs G. Vivek and Ponnam Prabhakar, ex-civil supplies minister D. Sridhar Babu also spoke. Mild tension prevailed when police lathicharged for thwarting Congress supporters from entering Collectorate.
