Leander Paes files complaint alleging threat from cricketer Atul Sharma

Paes alleged that Sharma is in a relationship with his former wife Rhea Pillai

Mumbai: An FIR was registered against "cricketer" Atul Sharma following a complaint by Indian tennis star Leander Paes accusing Sharma of giving death threats to him and his daughter in a family court in suburban Bandra on Tuesday, police said today.

Atul Sharma has been booked under IPC sections 506(2) (criminal intimidation), and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) yesterday after a complaint by Paes, said Kundlik Nigade, senior inspector with Bandra Kurla Complex police station.

In his complaint, Paes claimed that Sharma warned him and his daughter of dire consequences and gave deaths threats in the family court premises on Tuesday.

Paes was in the court as he and his estranged live-in partner model Rhea Pillai are locked in a family dispute case. "Sharma was furious at Paes as the latter had submitted evidence in the court that indicated the former's illicit relationship with Pillai," said another police officer, quoting the complaint of the tennis player.

In June, Pillai had filed a case of domestic violence and harassment against Paes, a charge refuted by tennis star. In her complaint, Pillai had also accused Paes's father Vece Paes, of preventing her and her daughter from entering their Carter Road residence in suburban Bandra. She had also sought blocking of any transfer of property to any "third party".

In June, Paes too had filed 'a guardianship petition' in the family court, seeking permanent custody of his daughter from Pillai.
