Aadhaar seeding blocks gas supply

LPG agencies are refusing to supply gas to consumers who have not seeded their Aadhaar cards
Vijayawada: LPG agencies are refusing to supply gas in the city to all those consumers who have not seeded their Aadhaar cards with their bank accounts. This is despite the absence of any directions from the government to do so. The government had earlier asked the district administration to complete the Aadhaar linkage with LPG supply, but the orders were later withdrawn. However, LPG agencies in the city are still refusing to book cylinders for consumers who have not linked their bank accounts with Aadhaar.
A. Venkateswara Rao, a native of Mogulrajapuram said that he booked a cylinder 10 days ago, but the agency rejected his request citing absence of seeding. He wondered how could the agency refuse to book the cylinder. When asked, Krishna district joint-collector J. Murali made it clear that the government has not issued any directives to the gas dealers to refuse bookings.
He said that the dealers are obliged to supply LPG to even those consumers who do not have Aadhaar cards. “We had only sought completion of Aadhaar seeding as early as possible,” he said.
Interesting, some LPG agencies in the city are delaying supplies, citing the Cyclone Hudhud.
CPM city secretary Ch. Babu Rao demanded the authorities to ensure that the agencies supply LPG without demanding Aadhaar seeding. “About 25 per cent of the people do not have Aadhaar cards as they couldn’t submit residential proof. How can the agencies refuse them LPG?”he asked.
