Tamil Nadu: 1,112 Anna University students get job offers

IBM, Cognizant, Infosys and Accenture shared the first day slot to recruit students

Chennai: The global economic slowdown and recession could to be a thing of the past if one goes by Anna University's placement statistics this year. As many as 1,112 students got 1,696 offers from four top IT companies, with several students getting more than one offer.

IBM, Cognizant, Infosys and Accenture shared the first day slot to recruit students from the Anna University departments - College of Engineering, Guindy, Madras Institute of Technology and Alagappa College of Technology. The recruitment process started on October 6 and went on till October 13.

Providing details about this year's recruitment, Anna University vice-chancellor Prof M. Rajaram said this was the first time the university tried bulk hiring process with companies sharing the day one slot.

"Over 500 students got placed in core and IT product companies in the first phase of placement with salary packages ranging from Rs 4.5 to Rs 17.6 lakh this year.

During the second phase, about 1,112 students received placement offers with a salary package ranging from Rs3.2 to Rs3.5 lakh. In the third phase, more core companies are expected to participate in the placement drive in which an additional 500 students are expected to get placement offers," he said.

Prof T. Thyagarajan, director, centre of university industry collaboration at Anna University, added that the university plans to conduct the Tamil Nadu state-level placement programme (TNSLPP) during December to facilitate the recruitment of students from private colleges affiliated to the university.
