Gold, cash stolen from M.N. Nambiar’s house

A maid employed in the house has also been missing for the last 10 days

Chennai: An ancestral diamond ring, five sets of ear studs and 3,000 Malaysian ringgits, worth Rs 60,000, were stolen from the house of late veteran actor M.N. Nambiar in Gopalapuram.

The actor’s daughter, Sneha, who lives there with her husband Sarathbabu (also an actor) made an oral complaint with the Royapettah police, sources said. The incident came to light on Wednesday after Sneha, who was looking for the valuables in the steel cupboard, couldn’t find them.

Police officers said that the old house on 6th Street in Gopalapuram was under renovation and the family stayed at a rented place close to the ancestral property. A maid employed in the house has also been missing for the last 10 days and police are speaking to the person who introduced the maid to the family, according to sources.

The diamond ring was reportedly passed on to Sneha by her late mother, Rukmani, and is said to be close to her heart, an official privy to the investigation said. The Royapettah police are investigating.
