Rahul Gandhi hits at BJP over ceasefire violations

‘Our people are being killed, but not a word has been uttered for 6 days’

Ganaur, Haryana: Lashing out at the Narendra Modi Government over ceasefire violations by Pakistan, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday questioned the Prime Minister's "silence" on the issue, alleging that he has done "nothing to stop it despite many provocations".

He lashed out at Modi for "sitting on swings" with Chinese President Xi Jinping when Chinese forces were intruding into Ladakh.

"When BJP campaigned in previous Lok Sabha polls, they said they will teach a lesson to China and Pakistan. Chinese President came to India and our Prime Minister was sitting on a swing with him even as Chinese forces intruded into Ladakh.

"It was his (Xi) official visit, but he (Modi) did not ask a single question to him (about action by the Chinese soldiers)," Rahul said while addressing a poll rally.

On the shelling and firing by the Pakistani troops, Rahul said, people are dying, but the Government is "sitting quiet."

"Firing is taking place on borders. Our people are being killed, but not a word has been uttered for six days (by the govt) and then he (Modi) says everything will be fine. Those who have died and those who have been injured in the firing, what about them?" Rahul asked.

Rahul also raked up the issue during his election rallies at Firozpur Jhirka and Rewari, which he addressed earlier in the day.

From the Ganaur seat, Congress candidate Kuldeep Sharma, who is at present Speaker of the Haryana Assembly, is seeking re-election.
