Pakistan lodges protest with India for ceasefire violations

Five villagers were killed and 34 injured on Indian side in heavy mortar shelling

Islamabad: Pakistan today lodged a "strong" protest with India over the alleged ceasefire violations along the border, killing four persons.

"The Government of Pakistan has lodged strong protest with the Government of India through diplomatic channels and called for restraining its forces from constant violation of the ceasefire," Pakistan Foreign Office said in a statement.

Five villagers were killed and 34 injured on Indian side in heavy mortar shelling and firing from across the International Border and Line of Control in Jammu and Poonch sectors, triggering strong condemnation by India.

Pakistan said four of its citizens killed and three others injured during firing by Indian troops.

An Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement today said the dead included two children and a woman.
