Land pooling arouses passions

The villagers are upset following CM Naidu’s statement on forcible land acquisition

Vijayawada: The TD government is likely to face the wrath of farmers of villages on the bank or River Krishna in both Krishna and Guntur districts during it prestigious Janmabhoomi Maa Vuru programme.

The villagers are upset following Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s statement on forcible land acquisition, if the farmers refuse the land pooling option.

Farmers of these villages have already started organising meetings. The general mood is that they will not accept the land pooling option till the time there is more clarity over the proposal, said a landowner.

The Janmabhoomi programme in Vaikuntapuram village, scheduled for Saturday, was cancelled at the last minute. It is believed that the officials were wary of the farmers’ wrath and decided not to take any risks.

Interestingly, realtors, who have been doing good business taking advantage of the state capital decision, are said to be instigating the farmers to oppose the land pooling option. The realtors are supporting the farmers in their protest against the proposal. “Why should we lose our livelihood by offering our land for the capital? When there is no guarantee on loan waiver scheme so far, where is the guarantee that farmers will get a share in the developed land after they part with their properties?” questioned R. Appa Rao of Vaikuntapuram.

A similar situation prevailed at Kunchanapalli village of Tadepalli mandal recently, where the farmers decided not to give their lands to the government.

Narasimha Rao, a farmer , said that the government should make its stand on the land pooling policy clear as the farmers are not willing to believe the government. The fear of their lands being forcibly acquired is keeping away farmers from Janmabhoomi programme.
