Communist Party of India to open cleanliness drive on November 1

Pinaray Vijayan slammed the Doordarshan for showing RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s Vijaydashmi speech

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM will launch a massive peoples’ cleanliness movement on November 1 with the help of local bodies and other organisations to create awareness about waste disposal.
At a press conference here, CPM state secretary Mr Pinarayi Vijayan said that workshops on cleanliness will be held across the state in October in the run up to the campaign. Though the entire party will plunge into the cleanliness drive using all its might and available expertise, it will not be a CPM programme. In case if no one comes forward to take the initiative, the party with the help of people , will implement the programme at different level.

The CPM state secretary said the party would mobilise people under the local bodies and turn the campaign into a peoples movement. He called upon local bodies to emulate the Alappuzha model of source level waste disposal mechanism.

On Government decision to ban flex boards, Mr Pinarayi Vijayan said the party had set an example by avoiding such boards during the Kottayam state conference. However, when rival political parties used flex boards extensively during election campaign the CPM could not stay away. “It is ideal to ban flex boards if everyone agrees and avoid plastic carry bags if there is a viable alternative,’’ he added.

Meanwhile ‘RSS-BJP’s anti-minority campaign affected party in Lok Sabha polls’

CPM State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said the communal campaign unleashed by RSS-BJP against certain sections of society had adversely affected the party in Lok Sabha polls. At a press conference here, the CPM leader said the RSS and BJP tried to infiltrate into major community organizations in the state. Even RSS rabble-rousers, both men and women, were being allowed to speak at meetings organised by certain shakhas of SNDP.

He said the RSS had a specific agenda of increasing its influence among caste and community organisations to help the BJP gain foothold. “Earlier community organisations used to play major role in social reforms . They never identified issues on caste lines. Even Sree Narayana Dharma Pripanana Yogam (SNDP) has no mention of caste in its name. But unfortunately the top leadership of most community organisations have been hijacked by the rich and influential people.

They have their own vested interests and they don't take up the issues of the poore poor. Each Shakha now has different interests and we are viewing all these developments closely,’’ he said. Mr Pinaray Vijayan slammed the Doordarshan for showing RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s Vijaydashmi speech. “The RSS is calling the shots in the Government. Its clearance is needed for every policy decision. They think they are above PM. The DD episode is highly objectionable,’’ he alleged.

The CPM state secretary said the organisational weakness had also led to party’s defeat in Lok Sabha polls. “We could not poll all LDF votes in many places.’’ On Bennet Abraham, Mr Pinarayi Vijayan said that there was nothing wrong in candidate’s profile but he could get the required public support. “But you cannot put the entire blame for defeat on him,’’ he said.

When asked whether he would step down from the post of state secretary at the next state conference, he said; “There is no room for speculation whether Pinarayi Vijayan will be remain secretary or not. There is no scope for the media to create controversy over this issue.’’
