Officials do a clean sweep

Enthusiastic response to PM Narendra Modi’s cleanliness campaign
Rajahmundry: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for maintenance of cleanliness by launching Swachh Bharat Abh-iyan received tremendous response from several corporate houses in both public and private sector, government departments, ministers, public representatives and a cross section of the society in Godavari districts on Thursday.
In Rajahmundry, Mayor P. Rajani Sesha Sai administered pledge to the people including government employees and others on maintaining cleanliness under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at the Subramanym grounds.
Rajahmundry urban MLA Dr Akula Satya-narayana, Rajahmun-dry rural MLA Gorantla Buchaiah Choudhary and several public representatives were present. ONGC CMD D.K. Saraff administered pledge to over 200 employees and took up cleanliness drive at ONGC Base Complex.
He laid foundation stone for construction of a toilet at an MPP school at Pedapalli village of Alamur mandal. He said that they would invest over Rs 100 crore for construction of toilets in the country.
GAIL is planning to construct 1,021 toilets at a cost of Rs 27 crore in the country and out of them 336 units are going to be taken up in East Godavari district. GAIL director (projects) Dr Asuthosh Karnatak inaugurated the construction of toilet works at 10 schools located at Kakinada rural, Allavaram and Mamidikuduru mandals during his visit.
Airports Authority of India is taking up construction of toilets for girls in 765 schools in 37 districts in the country and out of them 55 schools are from East Godavari.
At Eluru, local MP Maganti Venkateswara Rao along with his supporters arrived at the railway station and cleaned the coaches. Local MLA Badeti Bujji, Mayor Sheik Nurjahan and others also cleaned the coaches.
Minister for women and child welfare Peethala Sujatha flag-ged off a rally at N.R. Peta and called upon the people to maintain cleanliness of their homes and work places.
At Bhimavaram, Narasapuram MP Dr Gokaraju Gangaraju, MP Thota Seetarama Lakshmi, MLA Pulaparthy Ramanjaneyulu and others cleaned the Bhimavaram town railway stations with the broom sticks.
