I want to be like Hema Malini: Katrina Kaif

Katrina talks about her role in Bang Bang, gives an insight into her work ethics and shows off her Hindi

Mumbai: Ahead of her upcoming release Bang Bang opposite Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif says that she has had it easy in Bollywood. And with BB creating a hype after the hit Dhoom 3, the actress is confident that it will do well. During her interview, which is interspersed with flawless Hindi, she compares BB with Dhoom 3. “Aamir ne mera role kha liya!” she jokes about D-3, adding, “In BB I am doing a completely different role; my character is beautiful. All the actions performed by Hrithik are spectacular. I just needed to go with the flow.”

About the film she says, “I play a girl working in a bank. She doesn’t have a boyfriend. She then meets this man and feels that her life is in danger but she remains quiet… BB can be said to be a ‘funloveria’ kind of a story with a lot of action.” On not promoting Bang Bang on a reality show recently, Katrina says that she was very tired. “For Dhoom 3 too, Adi (Aditya Chopra) had decided not to visit reality shows. So with Bang Bang if the marketing people decide to take the same route then it’s their call.”

On her newfound prowess in Hindi, the actress says, “Yes! I can speak in Hindi… Actually I have learned all the 12 languages, Tamil, Telugu etc. (winks). Ask in any language and though I am confident in Hindi, I will answer in English!” On a more sober note she adds, “My filmy journey in Bollywood has not been tough at all. I can say that I have been very lucky and fortunate to get great roles. Every effort of mine has been rewarded by my audience. My friends have always recommended me to producers and directors. They have always guided me and pointed out my flaws; their advice has helped me improve my acting abilities. But sometimes if the flaws are allowed to pass by (winks) then I just keep quiet and let it go.”

Commenting on the numbers game in the industry, Kat says, “This is a very conspicuous statement; in fact all this matters only if your films taste success one after the other. The status changes with films. I am not bothered about the number game but I want to give my best to the audiences. I want to be known like Hema Malini; she is known for her fondness, being within the hearts of the audiences. Entertaining and keeping the audience happy is what I really care for.

“We change not with success, but with times. As you grow, hopefully you change for the better. Having seen success you become less erratic, also you learn to appreciate quiet moments. It teaches you to balance everything and your priorities will not change with happiness. Also, with your films doing well, you start looking forward to being with your family and friends. You start to enjoy your holidays properly to reduce the work stress.”

On her presence on social media, Katrina adds, “I feel if you are hearing good things on social media about yourself then you should also have the capacity to hear or read not so good things about yourself. People are not going to just praise you all the time.”
