Modi to Siddaramaiah: Time to join hands

Tumkur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has indirectly asked Congress ruled State governments to co-operate with the Union government to take India on the development path saying, "If one wants to take the country to progress, the Centre and state governments should work together by forming teams".

Speaking after inaugurating an integrated Food Park at Vasantanarasapur industrial area in Tumkur district, he said that he was trying his best to build good rapport with the CMs of various states as was required in a federal system.

Speaking on the plight of farmers, Mr Modi said though the members of the farming community satisfy the hunger of the whole nation, 'their pockets have not been getting filled'.

"Farmers have been working hard but have not been able to progress due to lack of infrastructure facilities like cold storage of vegetables, fruits, food processing units and failure to get good market price for their produce.

Claiming that the present food park would help the farming community, Mr Modi said that they would able to save 30-40,000 crores per year if daily agricultural wastage is ended. Emphasizing that there were hundreds ways to improv the farming community economically, he said if fruit juice was marketed like Coke and Pepsi, the farming community would get good benefits.

The Prime Minister also said that there was a lot of scope to give a new dimension to the agriculture sector in the country if modern technology was adopted and value addition done to farmers' produce.
