Ongole: The Ongole Municipal Corporation (OMC) decided to set up 20 RO plants under the NTR Sujala water scheme to supply 20 litres of drinking water at Rs2 from October 2 in city.
The OMC will implement the scheme with the co-operation of the non-governmental organisations which will set up RO plants at their own cost and bear the maintenance. The municipal corporation will allot land for the purpose.

During the first phase, the officials decided to set up RO plants at Military Colony, Nehru Colony, R.G.K. Colony, Nehru Nagar, Balaji Nagar, Sivaji Nagar, Shriram Nagar, Jayaprakash Colony and at some other places. So far, the OMC has identified sites at Military Colony and Nehru Colony to set up RO plants and applied for power connections.
Sources in the OMC said, so far officials have identified places to set up 14 RO plants in the city. They are searching suitable sites to set up RO plants at remaining six places. As per the OMC sources, at least maintenance of four RO plants would be given to the SHGs in the city.

Municipal commissioner Ch. Vijayalakshmi will decide the places. Municipal engineer Chennakesava Reddy said, “We have taken steps to supply drinking water under NTR Sujala Scheme from October 2. NGO are coming forward to set up the RO plants for which OMC will provide necessary infrastructure.
