Décor corner with antique touch

Here’s why this new store is the sudden rage for all the ‘home’ needs
Sona Reddy, an architect, moved to Hyderabad after her marriage. Soon, she found just one fault in the city. She couldn’t get the best of décor items for her clients here. Two-and-a-half years down the line, she has solved the problem not just for herself, but for all with her home décor store, Room Therapy.
Moving past the usual “contemporary” home décor stores, Sona’s store is a welcome change as it opens to ruggedness, and the not-so-usual style of interiors. Right from the huge mirror door with a ceramic bird wall hangings at the entrance, everything has an antique touch to it. Talking about the Hyderabadi trends she says, “The major trend I have noticed is that everyone tends to go to Italy or China and get everything from there. But only after they are back do they notice that they forgot to get a little something for a corner next to their bed or something to hang on an empty wall. That’s where we come in. We provide for accents and highlighters.”
Sona also has a workshop in Hyderabad where many of the artefacts are customised for her customers. But what sets the store apart is the quirkiness that comes along with it. From the blue chandelier that she picked up from Charminar to the little bird book ends, nothing is ordinary. “I personally don’t like all structured contemporary stuff. The store reeks of what I like, the rugged accents with a very antique touch to them. There’s nothing here that I wouldn’t keep at my own home,” says Sona, adding, “We are shifting to more of yellows and reds to incorporate the festive feeling.”
The uniqueness of the store has also made it a venue for exhibitions but so far she has just allowed one there. She says, “We have been getting offers to hold exhibitions, but I we will choose only those exhibiting things that are otherwise not easily available in the city.” Well, much like the artefacts at her store.
