Rakul Preet Singh enters the big league

Now, one of Tollywood’s busiest actresses, Rakul Preet Singh talks about the movies and the slaps

Mumbai: Rakul Preet is now on cloud nine as her first big film Loukyam is releasing this Friday ten-months after Venkatadri Express. “I play a don’s sister in the movie. The way I talk is very different and is quite interesting,” she says. Talking about her co-star Gopichand, she says, “It’s fun working with him and he’s always cracking jokes on sets.” For the past two years, Rakul has been busy with several projects and has now completed four to five films and has also signed new projects. So, to complete these projects, Rakul Preet often works round the clock. “Whenever there was a need, I stretched my timings. I am eager to work and I love my job and I don’t really get tired,” she says. And well, it does have its benefits… she recently bought a luxury SUV for herself!

“I start afresh for each film. I don’t sleep for too long; I need only five hours of sleep. I ask about the scenes and prepare according to them. I know lip sync is important so I speak the dialogues in Telugu while shooting,” she adds. But the actress is fast emerging as one of the most-wanted leading ladies in Tollywood. She has now signed another film opposite Ravi Teja, Kick 2 and her other two films are Rough, which is ready to release, and Pandaga Chesuko opposite Ram.

Rakul is currently in Shimla shooting for her Hindi film. “I met Hema Malini at the workshop and she is very friendly. She was trying to get into the mood of young actors so we had a good time at the workshop.” Right now Rakul is concentrating on both industries. “For the past two years, I have been working without a break so after this Hindi project, I’m planning a 15-day break to spend time with my family and friends,” she says. After the break, she will join Ravi Teja for Kick 2’s shooting.

When the talk turned to style quotient she revealed that she now has a stylist for the Bollywood film. For Telugu films she goes with the film’s designer. “For Loukyam it was Ashwin, Neeraja Kona is doing it for Pandaga Chesuko and Shilpa Reddy for Current Theega,” she says. Strangely, she considers slaps crucial to her movies. “I noticed the slap connection in my films. I slap people in Rough, Loukyam, Current Theega and Pandaga Chesuko. In Venkatadri Express, I got slapped. So maybe slaps are lucky for me and if these films work, I will make sure there is a slap in every film I do,” she says.
