Teenager was raped for about a year

The last customer was a foreigner who took her to Goa

Hyderabad: Last year, when her brother-in-law Md. Akbar took her to a place in Malakpet, little did the 14-year-old girl know that she was going to be sold to a middle-aged rich businessman who would subsequently rape her repeatedly. It was the beginning of a one-year-long ordeal for the teenage girl from Vattepally. She was sold to different people who took her to farm houses and independent villas in the city, and sometimes to other states like Goa. This continued till Wednesday morning when she escaped from her house and sought help from a rights group in the old city.

“My brother-in-law threatened to kill my mother and sister when I refused to go with him in the earlier days. Initially, my mother did not want to send me, then he threatened her too. But later, seeing the money, she started pushing me into this,” said the victim, who is now being treated at the Maternity Hospital in the city. Akbar, who runs a paan shop in the old city, would take thousands of rupees from customers and send the victim with them for a week or a month. The last customer was a foreigner who took her to Goa.

“He picked me up from Rajendranagar and took me to Goa by flight. In the six days I spent there, he made me drink alcohol and raped me continuously. I was harassed and humiliated, he brought me back to the city on Tuesday night, after which I escaped from my home with my friend,” said the victim. Sources said that Akbar had also pushed his younger sister and daughter into prostitution. His sister is likely to lodge another complaint at the Falaknuma police station in this regard.

Meanwhile Akbar had pushed sister, daughter into prostitution:

A day after the 14 year old victim approached the police alleging that she was sold to different people, including a suspected foreign national, Falaknuma police registered a case against her mother, sister and brother-in-law under the Immoral Trafficking Act, and rape cases against several ‘customers’. The police has launched a manhunt for the accused, who are now absconding.

“She was sold to several customers by her brother-in-law, Md. Akbar, 40, in the last one year,” said a senior police official from Falaknuma police station. Police officials said that the accused, Akbar, had been arrested earlier in 2013 by the Kanchanbagh police after he allegedly forced his daughter into prostitution. However, he got bail three months later and started his activities again.

We have now registered a case under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, and Criminal Amendment Act (Nirbhaya Act), IPC 376 for rape, along with other relevant sections against the accused,” said Falknuma ACP, Md Abdul Bari. While, the victim had said that she was taken to Goa by an Arabic speaking foreign national, the ACP denied it and said it was a local businessman. The victim, who escaped from her house on Sept. 17 early morning after coming back from Goa, took the help of rights activists Jaya Vindyala, Md. Iqbal and Riazuddin, who took her to Falknuma police station.

Police officials said the victim is stable, and she has been sent to a maternity hospital for medical examination.
